Who we are

CassetteCD is a studio of Sony Walkman enthusiasts. We collect the machines ourselves, and we restore them because we could not stand to watch them disappear.

These are twenty-five-year-old devices, and they were never perfect: tapes jam, speed drifts, there is hiss, and you cannot skip tracks. They were replaced for good reasons. We repair them anyway — sourcing original units, replacing belts, gears and capacitors by hand, testing playback before anything ships, then mounting each one in a solid wood frame so it hangs on a wall and still plays.

Most of what we restore is Sony — the WM-EX series, the Discman D-series — because that is what we collect ourselves. Where we find a good Panasonic, Toshiba or Aiwa from the same era, we restore those too.

Every piece is a different machine, so no two are alike. Price range is $349–1,199 USD. We are based in Ningbo, China and ship worldwide with tracking.

Trademarks & affiliation

CassetteCD is an independent restoration studio. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Sony, Panasonic, Toshiba, Aiwa or any other brand mentioned on this site. All trademarks belong to their respective owners.

Quotable in your piece

If you are writing about the cassette revival, the nostalgia-gift trend, or repairable consumer electronics, these are the points we can back up:

  • Vintage Walkmans from the 1980s and 1990s are still repairable decades later — belts, gears and capacitors can be replaced by hand.
  • There is no manufacturer support and no spare-parts channel for these devices. Every part comes from other dead machines.
  • Restored, framed units currently sell for $349–1,199 USD. Full price index: 2026 Value Guide.
  • We can supply photographs, unit specifications, or an interview on request.
